Halton Condominium Corporation No. 150 Pier 12

It's interesting how some buildings are designed to stand out, while others blend in with their neighborhood to the point where they are not readily identified by visitors to the area.

"Pier Twelve", 102 Bronte Road, falls into the latter category. It is a four story brick building on the southwest corner of Lakeshore and Bronte Road, in the heart of a very interesting and attractive community nestled around Oakville's second natural harbour.

The building itself is home to 45 residential condominium units and 5 commercial units fronting along Lakeshore Road.

When entering the courtyard entrance off Bronte Road, the nautical theme of the area quickly comes into view, with landscaping over the garage entrance that includes a lake dock, piers and a flagpole so often seen in harbour areas. But visitors don't get to see sailing ships until they enter the lobby, which is attractively decorated with a bronze replica of what could well be one of the tall ships often seen visiting Bronte Harbour.

The real ships can be observed from many of the residential units looking out over Bronte Harbour. For the best view of Tuesday and Thursday night sailboat races on Lake Ontario, building residents often make their way up to the fifth floor roof top terrace for an evening BBQ and a bottle of wine. On clear nights, one can also see the harvest moon casting its yellow shine on the shoreline waters. It's quite a sight!

The building's warm and welcoming decor is a reflection of the residents. Newcomers find the residents, although a whole spectrum of age groups, as warm and welcoming as the decor. The resident ladies enjoy coffee mornings and monthly luncheon groups. The facilities of the building, pool, exercise room and roof top garden are wonderful meeting areas. The roof top garden is the locale of several annual social and business gatherings.

Maybe Pier Twelve is not a landmark but its location truly is. It is within easy walking distance to restaurants, food outlets, clothing and specialty stores. Many other developments are either in the planning stages or already under construction and the area is becoming a more vibrant community each year.

Pier Twelve is moving into the new century with progressive plans to modernize the pool equipment and restore the exterior of the building. The owners have collectively approved changes to their
By-laws and Declaration in accordance with the new Condominium Act. Regular Reserve Fund studies are completed and the Board of Directors have worked hard to ensure that the building's assets are well maintained.

Pier Twelve is a community within itself and the pride taken by both residents and staff is clearly visible within it's walls.
