Halton Condominium Corporation No. 214, "The Oaks," is located on the Sixth Line in the north part of Oakville, so named because of the many beautiful oak trees on the property. Built in 1990, it is a four-story low-rise condominium, mainly occupied by seniors. There are 76 units which are 100% occupied by owners. Many of the original purchasers still occupy the units, but unfortunately, over the past year, there have been several of the original residents who have had to move to continuous care facilities.

Five residents make up the Board of Directors at "The Oaks," all of whom work very diligently to ensure that the complex is well maintained and financially sound. The Board President usually produces a summary of the minutes for each Board meeting, which is posted for the residents to review. Some of the main projects that have recently been completed in the complex are: the refurbishment of the front lobby; repairs to the balconies, replacement of all failed sealed window units and caulking of all double-glazed windows.

There is an underground parking garage, outdoor parking for some residents and an outdoor parking area for visitors. In the lower level of the building, there is a library with gas fireplace, TV. and VCR where video nights are occasionally held. A large party room provides space for a weekly coffee party hosted by the residents, a great venue for socializing. A small exercise room with three stationary bicycles and a rowing machine, plus half-hour exercise classes three times a week, give opportunity for regular indoor exercise.

The Corporation employs a wonderful, compassionate and very dependable off-site Superintendent by the name of Grenville Walker, who is very respected and trusted by all the residents. He has been with H.C.C. No. 214 for seven years. The building has a security system monitored by PasWord. Protection, covering all suites and the building 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for fire and burglary. The Town of Oakville provides a bus service right to the doorstep twice a week to take residents on their weekly shopping expedition to area shopping centres.

A social committee organizes periodic dinners throughout the year such as pot luck suppers, barbecues, Swiss Chalet dinners and an annual catered Christmas dinner. The residents are a closely knit group who care for their neighbours and ensure that those on their own are well looked after. It is a wonderful Condo to live in and it is well cared for.
